PBGF – The Charity’s Vision!
The organisational vision is to establish a Purpose-Built Golf Facility (PBGF) in every state and territory in Australia. Obviously, this will require some serious funding and the usual question we are asked is where will you get the money?
The benefits of a PBGF to the community are enormous on many levels and when government and the disabilities sector stakeholders realise the potential of this world first golf industry model, funding will ‘we have no doubt’ follow.
Concept driver Darrell Dalton has a long history in the medical and golf industry and believes wholeheartedly that the PBGF has the potential to profoundly shift the status quo in the intellectual disabilities sector. Increased training and work placement opportunities are the obvious positives but there are other measurable benefits as well. Breaking Isolation is another key positive of the facility and not just for those benefiting from plugging into the training and work platforms but for many other groups that by the very nature of their situation become terribly isolated.
Nursing home residents for example have an opportunity to revisit a sport they believed out of reach…at the PBGF they will be able to reconnect with a healthy low impact activity at the pitch and putt course and perhaps enjoy a refreshment at the cafe with old and new friends alike. Hey presto the isolation has been broken!
In Australia there are approximately 600,000 individuals living with an intellectual disability and in reality, there are few opportunities for these Aussies in regard to gaining employment.
GPAI plans to address this issue ‘head on’ by providing substantial training and work placement for this community sector by establishing a PBGF which will be a unique world first golf industry model.
