Can You Sew?

Wanting to help a local charity with sewing?
GPAI may be the answer!

We started as a Golf Program for people with intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injury and mental health issues back in 2014 and ended up being a creative program with a store in Currie Street, Nambour.

If you are confident to sew

  • Tote bags
  • Fabric purses and wallets
  • Fabric or vinyl should straps
  • Scatter and lumbar cushions with zips

WE NEED YOU!

We do have an overlocker and industrial machine in our Basement Studio, however this would require a lot of paperwork and a Blue Card, etc. so we are keen for you to come in and pick up you box of pinned goodies from our disability students and sew them at home.

Pick up one week, and drop by within a fortnight is our hope.

There is a knack to sewing our students’ work.  We encourage our volunteer sewers to closely follow the rather innocent design with its faults as best as possible, however minor corrections are good too! Time needed is about four (4) hours a month.

These items have been created by our disability design students and are SOLD in our store by our students too, a percentage of sales going to the designer as part of our social enterprise partnership to use as they wish.

We can provide basic cotton thread if necessary and arrange a Blue Card for volunteers who wish to sew on site.  We are in great need as we lost all of our main sewers during COVID-19 so please give it some thought.

Contact us on 5476 0365 during business hours (10am – 4.30pm weekdays) to make a time to come and see our setup and chat about your involvement.
